Internet restored after outage in the South

Internet service stopped for some customers in the South when a underground fibre cable was cut in Rakaia this morning.

The damage was caused when a contractor digging in the area accidentally cut the cable about 10.25am, a Spark spokeswoman said..

Customers affected were those who receive broadband over fibre in Timaru, Oamaru, Queenstown, Dunedin and Invercargill.

Some 158 customers who receive broadband over copper were affected in Willowby and Hinds.

All services were restored by about 8pm.
