A woman who had a past relationship with convicted sex offender Christopher Roger King says the former ambulance officer was a "consummate liar" and believes there may be further victims.
"I'm just so relieved that he is now kept away in custody," the woman, who wished to remain anonymous, told Hawke's Bay Today on Friday.
On Thursday at Napier District Court, a jury found King guilty of all the eight charges he was facing, including the sexual violation, stupefaction and making of intimate visual recordings of a then 15-year-old girl.
The jurors came to a unanimous verdict in the case of the former Waipukurau St John officer, which related to the sexual assault of four women, aged between 15 and 57, in the back of his ambulance between January 2010, and June 2013.
"I was rocked by it," the woman said, after learning the details of King's sickly Central Hawke's Bay life during his high profile trial.
She began recalling King's earlier life, when he attended Cambridge High School in Waikato, before he began working as a diesel mechanic during the 1980s in Cambridge and Hamilton, and later moved to Rotorua and Waipukurau.
"He is a consummate liar. He can look at you, he can look at you right in the eyes, and lie right to your face."
It was seemingly King's willingness to lie which led him to project the idea that he was the "unluckiest ambulance officer in the country".
Crown prosecutor Steve Manning said during the trial "someone is lying ... either these women are lying or Mr King is lying".
The woman agreed the 48-year-old King had attempted to convince the jurors into believing what was an implausible coincidence, as he hid his true intentions.
She said King projected a confidence to people which has cumulated in his four marriages. His second wife has since died.
He married his current wife two years ago, while working as a member of St John, after he began his career as a volunteer in 2007.
The woman said King's family has "hotly denied" the allegations against him after he resigned from St John in August last year.
She said they may continue to "believe he is innocent".
"He has no empathy. I believe there will be lots of other victims coming forward now."
King will be sentenced next month.
