A man has died after being struck by a car as he was walking home on the Kapiti Coast last night.
The man is believed to have been walking on State Highway 1 from Paraparaumu to his home in Raumati when he was hit around 9.30pm, police said.
He was struck by a car travelling north on SH1, near Poplar Ave. He is believed to have been local to the Raumati area.
The man was flown by rescue helicopter to Wellington Hospital, where he later died as a result of his injuries, police said.
Initial investigations indicate the female driver of the vehicle was not at fault, police said.
A diversion was in place for northbound traffic via Poplar Ave. Traffic was light and there were no issues or major delays this morning.
