A 3-year-old girl has died after being run over in a West Auckland driveway.
The girl was hit by a car driven by a relative at a home in Te Atatu Peninsula just after 7.30am.
She was taken to hospital by ambulance but died after arriving.
"A police investigation is now under way by CIB staff and the Waitemata serious crash unit," a police spokeswoman said in a statement.
The child's family were being supported by police and Victim Support, she said.
Detective Senior Sergeant James Bothamley said: "Our thoughts are with the child's family. This is an incredibly sad incident for everyone involved."
