Man jailed for Porirua attack

A man has been sentenced to six and a half years in jail after violently attacking two women at a Porirua house last year.

Ruka Hemopo, 48, was found guilty in August of attempted murder and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

In the High Court at Wellington this morning, Justice Stephen Kos said although Hemopo did not show genuine remorse, his actions on the day of the attack in May last year were largely out of character.

Hemopo was also sentenced to four years and four months' imprisonment for wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He will serve the sentences concurrently.
