Cyclist injured in hit and run

A female cyclist suffered broken bones, deep cuts and abrasions that require plastic surgery in a hit and run outside Christchurch at the weekend.

A 41-year old woman riding a black Milazo on Jones Rd, 500m west of the junction with Dawsons Rd, when she was hit about 7.45pm on Saturday.

She was knocked off her bike and onto the gravel and grass verge at the side of the road.

Police believe that the front of a 1995 dark blue Mazda Millenia sedan and wing mirror collided with the bike and rider.

The nearside wing mirror from the vehicle was left at the scene.

The rider sustained multiple injuries including two broken ribs, a broken finger, a cut to her leg which required stitches, multiple deep abrasions to her arm and bruising.

She is scheduled to have plastic surgery on her arm and surgery on her hand at Christchurch Hospital today.

Police are appealing for the driver or anyone who has seen a dark blue Mazda Millenia that is missing a nearside wing mirror or has damaged to the front nearside of the vehicle to contact them on 03 347 9248.
