Pregnant woman hit by car near Nelson

A pregnant woman has been flown to hospital after being hit by a car near Nelson.

The woman, believed to be in her 30s, was a pedestrian and was struck on High St in Motueka, outside the Countdown supermarket around 12pm, southern ambulance communications team manager Andy Gray said.

Ambulance and a medical rescue helicopter were called to the scene.

The woman was complaining of back pain, and was flown to Nelson Hospital as a precautionary measure, Mr Gray said.

Her condition was not known.
