Interislander ferries behind schedule today

Interislander ferries are expected to run up to 75 minutes behind schedule today.

The 10.30am Arahura sailing from Wellington was expected to leave on time, according to InterIslander's website.

But the Aratere, sailing from Picton, was expected to leave at noon instead of its 10.45am scheduled departure.

The Kaitaki left the capital at 8.56am instead of 8.30am today.

The Arahura's 2.30am sailing from Wellington left 22 minutes late. Its 6.30am return trip left 16 minutes late.

The Aratere was cleared to sail last night after it suffered yet another technical fault.

InterIslander owner KiwiRail said several alarms showed up on the control screen in the engine room as the ship approached Wellington, even though the vessel was operating normally.

Aratere was out of action after losing a propeller on a crossing in November last year.

InterIslander said Aratere had a new mid-body installed in 2011, along with new bow, new stern profile, new propellers, and new interior, in a project carried out at Singapore's Sembawang shipyards.
