Teenager accused of attacking elderly couple remains in custody

A 17 year-old accused of a vicious attack on an elderly Waikanae couple will spent the festive season in custody.

Hohepa Wallace has been remanded without plea in custody to January 27.

His tearful mother was in the public gallery at Porirua District Court this morning.

"Be strong," she said.

The court heard the police investigation into the alleged Waikanae home invasion and assaults was ongoing.

The Waikanae couple were assaulted in their home and had their car stolen in an attack last week.

Wallace, of Otaki, first appeared in court on Monday on two charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and two charges of burglary.

"I love you my boy," his mother said in court today.

"See you soon mum," he said.

Wallace's mother declined to talk to reporters outside the courtroom.
