The victim of a homicide in Taranaki on Friday night has been named.
Police said they received a call about 10pm on Friday, after a local from Stratford heard shouting coming from a nearby house.
When they arrived at the house, a 71-year-old woman was found dead at the scene.
The woman has today been named as Gwendoline Blake.
A post mortem examination was being conducted this morning.
A scene examination was ongoing and was likely to be completed in the next 24 hours, police said.
A 47-year-old male was arrested at the scene, and was charged with the woman's murder.
Police said the man and woman knew each other, but would not make any further comment.
