One person is dead following a forestry accident involving a digger at Port Waikato this morning.
Emergency services were notified of the accident off Klondyke Rd, Port Waikato at 8.17am, said police northern communication shift inspector Chris Tate.
Police were working to formally identify the person and notify next of kin.
A Fire Service spokesman said the accident involved a digger and was on a forestry site.
As the accident was not on a public road, but on a work site, WorkSafe would handle the investigation.
A WorkSafe spokesman said details would be released later this morning.
