Man clocked at 171km/h stopped again

A man caught driving at speeds up to 171km/h on Wednesday was stopped by police again yesterday.

The 21-year-old Ashburton man took two hitch-hikers on a wild ride from Dunedin to Marlborough on Wednesday, reaching dangerous speeds that caused one terrified tourist to get out of the car at Kaikoura.

Officers caught up with the vehicle in Marlborough and issued the driver with an immediate 28-day suspension of his driver's licence.

He was also charged with failing to stop and driving at dangerous speeds.

Yesterday Marlborough police received information that the man was back behind the wheel and shared that information with Canterbury police.

Shortly after an officer in Temuka saw the man drive past.

Police stopped him and his car was impounded.
