A man has been charged after a pedestrian was hit by a cyclist as he stepped out of his doorway on to the street last month.
Police said a cyclist, travelling north on the footpath near the intersection of St Asaph and Manchester streets in Christchurch, collided with a pedestrian as he stepped out of a doorway about 6.45pm on February 16.
The pedestrian, a 54-year-old man, was taken to Christchurch Hospital with a fractured hip.
He underwent surgery to join the bones in his hip back together, and spent three nights in hospital.
Police have since charged a man in relation to the incident.
Today, a 24-year-old cyclist will appear in Christchurch District Court charged with careless driving causing injury.
