Boy hit by car in Hamilton

A young boy is in a stable condition after he was hit by a car outside a school in Hamilton yesterday afternoon.

Police say it's not yet clear how the 10-year-old was struck and they are investigating the incident.

It happened at 3.30pm outside Maeroa Intermediate School which is on Churchill Avenue.

The boy was rushed to Waikato Hospital with serious injuries but is understood to now be stable and in a ward.

Hamilton police Senior Sergeant Andrew O'Reilly said police were still trying to piece together what happened but reminded drivers that schools had a 40km/h speed limit.

He said that limit reduced to 20kmh around school buses but he did not believe this case involved a bus.
