Serious crash at Paengaroa

A 33-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries in a head-on collision on State Highway 33 at Paengaroa last night.

Police said a Toyota saloon and a silver Holden vehicle collided about 5.30pm yesterday.

Sergeant Mike Owen said the two male occupants of the Toyota and the female occupant of the Holden were all taken to Tauranga Hospital.

The 33-year-old man critically injured in the Toyota was the passenger and suffered multiple head, chest, torso, pelvic and leg injuries.

The driver of the Toyota, a 27 year old man, suffered minor leg injuries.

The 18-year-old female driver of the Holden sustained minor head injuries.

Diversions were in place on SH33 for about three and a half hours while emergency services attended the scene.

The Police Serious Crash Unit attended and investigations were continuing into the cause of the crash.
