Inquiry into North Shore sex assault

A woman was sexually violated in a North Shore reserve overnight.

Police said the 20-year-old woman was assaulted in a park off Oakway Rd and Pin Oak Rd, in the Schnappers Rock Rd area of Albany, in the early hours of this morning.

The attacker - a man described as unknown to the woman - sexually assaulted her and then ran from the scene, police said.

"The investigation is still in the very early stages and police seek public assistance," Detective Senior Sergeant Stan Brown, of the North Shore CIB, said.

"Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen anyone in the park on the evening of April 30 through to 2.30am on May 1.

"Police also like to hear from anyone who has noticed any suspicious behaviour in the Schnapper Rock/Oakway Drive area over the past few weeks."

Officers were working with the woman, Mr Brown said.

A large number of police cars was reported in the area this morning, as police guarded the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 09 488 9754 or anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
