Police speak to parents of dead young boy

The parents of a 15-month-old Greymouth boy who died in Auckland's Starship Hospital last month have been spoken to by police.

Leith Allen Hutchison was taken to Grey Base Hospital on April 21 as he was not breathing and suffering a cardiac arrest.

He was resuscitated and immediately flown to Starship, where he died two days later.

At the time of Leith's death, Detective Senior Sergeant Dan Keno said police were considering all options, including the possibility that Leith may have been assaulted in some way.

Today, Mr Keno said inquiries were continuing and they had spoken to a number of people to try to establish the events that led to the Leith's death.

Mr Keno said both of Leith's parents had been spoken to by police.

He said police inquiries were continuing.

The results of Leith's post-mortem examination were not expected for several weeks, as some of the required testing and analysis had to be done overseas, Mr Keno said.

He once again encouraged anyone with information relevant to the investigation to contact Greymouth police on 03 768 1600 or the Crimestoppers organisation, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
