Suspected gas leak at Picton ferry terminal

The fire service was called to the scene of a suspected gas leak at the Picton ferry terminal early this morning.

Southern fire communications manager Brent Dunn, said the fire service was called to the KiwiRail yard at the ferry terminal at Picton, after reports of a suspected chemical leak coming from a truck container about 4.20am.

Mr Dunn said the leak was contained, and was deemed safe enough for the Picton brigade to respond to.

"The chemical wasn't serious enough to warrant a major response."

The chemical was believed to be a some kind of pool cleaner, he said.
