Body found in Waikato River

A man's body has been found in the Waikato River between Huka Falls and the Aratiatia Dam.

The body of 45-year-old Oscar Dennis Olsen of Tolaga Bay was recovered by police on Tuesday afternoon.

Police are now appealing for information about Mr Olsen's last movements.

He had been wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet after being granted electronic bail in January, but last week the bracelet was removed and his whereabouts were not known.

Police said Mr Olsen's last known location was Gisborne on Friday, May 22.

Police were particularly interested in information about how Mr Olsen got to Taupo.

Mr Olsen was described as part Maori, of medium build and about 1.78m tall with receding dark hair, sometimes tied back.

The death was not being treated as suspicious at this stage, police said.
