Press Council complaint upheld

The New Zealand Press Council has upheld the substance of complaints made about a New Zealand Herald article concerning Amanda Bailey and the controversy over her reaction to Prime Minister John Key persistently pulling her ponytail at the cafe where she worked as a waitress.

The complaints, in short, stated the Herald had failed to act transparently and in good faith with Ms Bailey and had breached professional standards.

The Press Council subsequently found the Herald did not act professionally and with fairness towards Ms Bailey and also found a breach of its conflict principle.

The Herald report was published in the Otago Daily Times on April 23.
