Fine day but unsettled weather on way

Most of New Zealand is in for a fine day once remaining rogue showers clear this morning.

Wet weather will arrive to western areas tomorrow and over the weekend and temperatures are expected to be fairly warm -- for this time of year.

Auckland today is in for sun and a high of 13C. Wellington becomes fine with 10C and, after a chilly start today, Christchurch is expected to reach 11C on a sunny, clear day.

But the fine weather doesn't last for everyone.

"Tomorrow there's a front coming up the South Island and it's going to bring rain to the west of the South Island and the North Island," MetService meteorologist Richard Finnie said.

"Auckland's pretty good with just some cloudy periods until the front reaches Auckland overnight Saturday."

Sunday would be "pretty unsettled" for most of the country, especially western areas, which could be in for a day of showers and periods of rain.
