Three people were treated by ambulance staff after inhaling sulfuric acid vapour earlier today.
Emergency services were called to the University of Canterbury's science centre about 1.30pm, following reports of a sulfuric acid vapour spill, southern fire communications shift manager Brent Dunn said.
He said the Fire Service managed to "stabilise" the chemical.
An ambulance spokeswoman said six people were checked by ambulance staff at the scene - including three who had inhaled sulfuric acid vapour.
One of them was transported to Christchurch Hospital in a minor condition.
