A man has been found dead in a caravan in Temuka after a strong smell of gas was reported in the area.
Police said emergency services were called to an address in Waipopo Rd in the town, north of Timaru, about 2pm.
Firefighters from Timaru, wearing breathing apparatuses, searched the address.
They found a 47-year-old man dead in a caravan on the property.
Police said the man's name would not be released until next of kin have been notified.
The death has been referred to the coroner.
