Missing hunter found in good health

A hunter missing in "difficult terrain" near Wellington has been found in good health.

Concerns were raised for Timothy Cleghorn when he did not return home from a hunting trip on Wednesday night.

Ten teams of rescuers from Wellington, Manawatu, Horowhenua and the Wairarapa searched for Mr Cleghorn and his dog in the Akatarawa Saddle through to the Waikanae Valley.

The 28-year-old wearing only a t-shirt and camouflage pants.

He was found this morning "safe and well", according to a statement issued by police.

Wellington Police Senior Sergeant Anthony Harmer thanked the search teams for their efforts and wanted to send a safety message to others venturing outdoors.

When venturing out on hunting or tramping activities people need to make sure someone knows your plans, he said.

"Check the weather, know your limitations and…make sure you're well prepared for the conditions."
