Recovery efforts resume on glacier

Attempts to recover the remaining three bodies of people killed in the Fox Glacier helicopter crash have resumed this morning.

Teams of police search and rescue staff, Aoraki-Mt Cook Alpine Cliff Rescue and Fox Glacier Alpine Cliff Rescue crews left in helicopters for the glacier about 6am.

A police spokeswoman said the police Disaster Victim Identification Team spent the night at Chancellor Hutt on Fox Glacier.

Members of the Transport Accident Investigation Commission were also at the scene.

Twenty-six people involved in the recovery and investigation were at the glacier by 7am.

Bad weather has hampered recovery efforts since Saturday's crash but police hoped a window of good weather this morning would allow enough time to locate and recover the remaining three victims along with other evidence.

Four Britons, two Australians, and local pilot Mitch Gameren died when the Alpine Adventures helicopter crashed into a deep crevasse in the West Coast glacier on Saturday.
