Helicopter stuck on Mt Tarawera

Three visitors and a pilot had to be plucked off Mt Tarawera today after the helicopter landed heavily causing minor damage.

Emergency services were called after 2pm after a Volcanic Air Safaris helicopter landed heavily on the summit the mountain in the Bay of Plenty.

Managing director Phil Barlcay told the Rotorua Daily Post that no one was hurt and the helicopter only suffered minor damage.

"It's certainly not going to be an expensive fix from what we gather at the moment."

Mr Barclay said the firm sent a crew to the summit to pick up the pilot and passengers.

They were also working out the best way to get the helicopter off, as it was not possible for it to be flown.

Civil Aviation Authority had been informed and was investigating.
