Charge laid over roadside death

A man has been charged in relation to the death of teenager Ocean Heke in Auckland at the weekend.

The 17-year-old was walking home from a friend's 18th birthday party when she was hit by a vehicle in the suburb of Otorohanga, police say.

Her body was found at the scene about 6am on Sunday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Ross Patterson said a 21-year-old man was today charged with drink-driving causing death.

He would appear in the Hamilton District Court tomorrow.

However, the investigation was ongoing and police would still like to hear from anyone who had useful information, Sen Sgt Patterson said.

"I am grateful to the communities of Te Kuiti and Otorohanga for supporting our inquiry and I hope they continue to do so for this terrible tragedy."
