Tanker rolls in Southland

A fuel tanker driver escaped without major injuries after his vehicle rolled in Northern Southland this morning.

Emergency services were called to the crash, which happened about 5.30am, on State Highway 6 between Lumsden and Five Rivers, police said.

The driver had minor injuries and was being assessed by ambulance staff.

There are diversions in place at the intersection of SH 6 and SH 94 (just north of Lumsden).

A second diversion is in place at the intersection of SH 6 and Ellis Rd.

The road was likley to remain closed for most of the morning while the tanker was removed, police said.
