Service station ram-raid in West Auckland

Several cars smashed their way into a service station in West Auckland overnight, leaving a worker cowering in a back room.

Eight people were involved in the ram-raid on the Z service station on Main Rd, in Kumeu, about 3am, said Z spokesman Jonathan Hill.

The shop's front door was rammed with a vehicle, and a number of unknown items stolen from the store.

CCTV security footage of the attack is being reviewed by police, said Mr Hill.

"We have left it with police to look into and it is up to them to provide any more information," he said.

The staff member working at the time was not hurt and took shelter in the back room during the brazen attack, Mr Hill said.

"We offer counselling services to our staff when something as traumatic like this happens."

This morning's ram-raid was not a common occurrence, Mr Hill said, but has been happening more frequently in recent times.
