A person is dead after being struck by a car in Northland this evening, emergency services are reporting.
Police and ambulance could not be contacted, but northern fire communications shift manager Jaron Phillips confirmed a person had died.
The person was struck on State Highway One near the Piano Hill Rd intersection, about 13km north of Whangarei, about 7.30pm, Mr Phillips said.
Firefighters from the Hikurangi Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Whangarei Fire Brigade are at the scene.
