A Tauranga tramper has been winched to safety after being lost in the Kaimai Ranges in the upper North Island.
A rescue helicopter was called at 10am today after a 57-year-old man become lost while tramping in the bush.
The man went in yesterday afternoon for a walk, a rescue helicopter spokesman said.
The tramper was located this morning by the police helicopter using FLIR (forward looking infrared), a night vision camera.
The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was called in with the Port of Tauranga rescue team.
The tramper was not hurt, but was cold and wet.
