Tauranga police are responding after a glider crash near Tauranga airport this afternoon.
Senior Sergeant Steve Shaw said staff were yet to arrive at the scene so couldn't confirm any details.
However, northern fire communications shift manager Scott Osmond says fire crews have just arrived at the scene.
Mr Osmond confirmed the glider pilot sustained serious injuries in the crash, and said the glider itself had been significantly damaged.
A St John Ambulance crew are currently responding.
Mr Osmond said the crash occurred at the northwest end of the airport near Seawind Lane, off Jean Batten Dr.
Details of the pilot are currently unavailable.
