'Suspicious' fire at Greymouth wharf

Police are investigating a "suspicious" fire that has badly damaged a boat at a West Coast wharf.

Emergency services were alerted to the fire at the Westfleet Wharf in Greymouth about 2.05am today.

No one was on the fishing vessel at the time, police said.

They were unsure how the blaze in Gilbert St started and would carry out a scene investigation with fire safety officers today.

Police are appealing to the public for any information, including anyone near the wharf area early this morning.
