CD review: Radiohead

Radiohead.
A Moon Shaped Pool.
XL.
★★★★+

No alarms but some surprises on Radiohead's ninth LP, not least the beating human heart that emerges from their singular brand of post-millennial tension.

With Thom Yorke exorcising his experimental urges via solo and side projects, A Moon Shaped Pool is less noodly than its predecessors, awash with shimmering melodies and incandescent (yet no-less-menacing) arrangements.

Their trademark breadth of virtuousity remains the bedrock - Burn the Witch's orchestral clatter, the unsettling chorale that underpins Decks Dark, and the dubby impulses that burble beneath Identikit.
