Teens arrested after Whanganui ram raid

Two teens have been charged after a botched ram raid in Whanganui this morning saw a vehicle roll down a hill into a tanker.

Police received reports about a stolen vehicle about 5am, shortly before alarms went off at a BP station on Taupo Quay.

Upon arrival at the petrol station two minutes later, police found the stolen vehicle with significant damage.

The BP station's shop front was also damaged.

CCTV footage provided a description of the alleged offenders and police searching the area found them nearby, about half an hour later.

A 14-year-old and a 16-year-old will be charged with burglary and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle and will be dealt with by Youth Aid.
