Police are searching for Nykell Hegotule and have issued a warrant for his arrest for breaching release conditions.
The 28-year-old was last seen in Hamilton on Monday. He is believed to be armed and have his 3-year-old son with him.
Hegotule has links to Waikato, Northland and Auckland and police warn he should not be approached.
He was described as having connections with the Black Power gang.
Hegotule has a 2cm scar in the middle of his forehead and several tattoos, including YOZA across his left knuckles, BP in bold lettering on his right forearm and TEESH in italics/old English on his left forearm.
A police spokeswoman said there were no custody issues in relation to Hegotule having the child and police had been in contact with the child's mother.
