Nth Island pounded by wild weather

Homes have been flooded, a trampoline flung on a roof and a state highway is blocked by a tree as wild weather hits the central North Island.

In Kawerau, firefighters removed a trampoline after it became tangled in a television aerial when it was blown into the side of a house just before 5am.

In Matamata, a house was flooded when a creek burst its banks and waters poured through a Doug Wilson Cres home.

And just after 4am the Redwood Lodge Motel in Tokoroa reported extensive flooding around the property.

Northern Fire shift manager Jarron Phillips said floodwaters were lapping State Highway 1 and signs would be erected to warn motorists.

In the Bay of Plenty, a tree has come down across State Highway 30 and firefighters were now clearing the road.

Mr Phillips said the severe weather that hit Auckland last night caused problems for homeowners mainly in the eastern suburbs.

The intense cloudburst flooded dozens of homes in Forrest Hill, East Coast Bays, Cockle Bay and Parnell and firefighters had to pump out water or clear drains after the sudden deluge.
