Emergency services have been called to back up a police operation in the Bay of Plenty.
A fire communications spokesman said fire units were at Old Kaimai Rd, off State Highway 29, in the Lower Kaimai area.
Smoke has been seen rising from a property in the area.
A reporter at the scene said the Armed Offenders Squad and at least eight police cars were gathered on SH29 at both ends of Old Kaimai Rd.
"It's looking like they are getting ready to take action."
Police media communications confirmed an operation was under way, but no further information was available.
