Man attacked with skateboard

A man is in hospital after being attacked with a skateboard in Napier yesterday afternoon.

Police said two men assaulted a third in the middle of the road opposite the Raffles St entrance to the Pak'nSave carpark.

One of the attackers hit the victim over the head with a skateboard multiple times.

He fell to the ground, unconscious.

The attackers stole the man's mobile phone and bank cards before running off towards Munro St.

The victim suffered serious lacerations to his head and remains in hospital in a stable condition.

The attackers are described as Maori men, 1.7-1.8m tall, of solid build and aged in their late teens or early 20s.

Both were wearing dark clothing and carrying skateboards.
