Mother, son arrested for drugs

A mother and her teenage son have been arrested and charged after police found cannabis and ammunition at their house.

Hawke's Bay Police made the discovery while carrying out a search warrant at a property in Hastings today.

An amount of cash was also found in the house, police said.

A 44-year-old woman and her 17-year-old son have been charged with supplying cannabis.

The teenager has also been charged with supplying a person under 18 with cannabis.

Detective Sergeant Craig Vining said the pair had earlier been "victims of violence" as a result of their own offending.

"The drug-dealing industry is brutal and unforgiving," he said.

"Police will strenuously target people who supply drugs in our community."

The mother and son will appear in the Hastings District Court next week.

Police are urging anyone who may have information of drug dealing in the area to report it.
