On the day thousands farewelled Senior Constable Len Snee at his funeral, tributes were also paid to his killer, Jan Molenaar.

Mr Snee was gunned down while conducting a cannabis search warrant on Molenaar's Chaucer Road house on Napier Hill last Thursday.

Two other officers and a civilian were seriously injured during the incident.

Molenaar was found dead --- from a self-inflicted shot to the head -- when police stormed his home on Saturday.

Friends and family paid tribute to him in funeral notices in the Hawke's Bay Today newspaper today.

"My dear son. May you be at peace with yourself. We all love you," his father wrote.

Molenaar's partner Del said she was the luckiest person to have had him in her life and he had left her with golden years to treasure.

"A great man with a big heart and a smile that would light up the world," she wrote.

His siblings thanked him for their years together. "Bye for now big brother."

Friends wrote that Molenaar was fun and strong and would always be missed.

"A wise strong man has fallen but will never be forgotten. Your memories will stay in our hearts forever and will always cherish our times together."

Molenaar's body is at Ruahapia Marae in Hastings until his funeral service on Friday morning.
