A 72-year-old man who suffered serious eye injuries when he
was trampled by a horse on Monday will see facial specialists
today.
The King Country man had been horse trekking with friends in
the Pureora Forest, 50km west of Taupo when he was thrown
from his horse as it crossed a creek bed.
The horse's hoof landed on the man's head, near his left eye,
Hamilton search and rescue paramedic Mike Pudney told The
Dominion Post.
He could not be reached by rescuers due to bad weather and
had to spend the night in the bush.
He was flown to Waikato Hospital yesterday, where he was in a
comfortable condition in a ward, hospital spokeswoman Mary
Anne Gill said.
