Workers at Solid Energy's Huntly East coalmine have voted to
accept an 8.5 percent pay increase after a month of
industrial action.
The offer was similar to one rejected last week but removed
clawbacks which would have left workers worse off, said
Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union spokesman Rob
Egan.
The base pay rate for miners and maintenance staff would
increase from $78,832 to $85,600.
Meanwhile, about 730 workers at Solid Energy's West Coast
mines at Stockton and Spring Creek were due to vote on a new
offer tonight.
Solid Energy had earlier offered unionised employees New
Zealand-wide a 2 percent increase in the first year and 3
percent in the second, as well as a lump sum of about $2000
in recognition of large profits.
Workers remain on strike at the company's Rotowaro and
Stockton mines.
