Grave fears held for missing elderly Hamilton woman

Hamilton police say they hold have "grave concerns" for a elderly woman who went missing five days ago.

Audrey Gibson, 81, was reported missing yesterday but had not been seen since leaving her hairdresser's on Comries Rd, in suburban Queenwood, about 4.30pm Wednesday, Waikato police search and rescue Sergeant Phil Bell said.

Police had launched an urban search and rescue operation which included checks with neighbours and a search of the Waikato River and its banks.

Anyone with information about Mrs Gibson's whereabouts should contact police immediately, he said.

Mrs Gibson was described as Caucasian, about 160cm tall, with grey hair.

She was last seen wearing a white sleeveless shirt, white and brown jersey and brown trousers.

She was carrying a green canvas shopping bag and a black handbag.
