Police tonight named the bus passenger who died after a
flying truck wheel struck him on Auckland's southern motorway
two days ago.
He was Lam Xuan Hu, a Vietnamese 24-year-old living in
Manukau on a student visa.
Two 80kg wheels came loose from a southbound truck Thursday
and flew in different directions, one crossing the motorway
median barrier and smashing through the windscreen of the
northbound bus Mr Hu was sitting near the driver's seat.
The wheel injured three other passengers, none seriously.
Mr Hu died in Middlemore Hospital yesterday when his life
support was switched off.
Police investigating the cause of the crash said charges over
the man's death were possible.
