A Super 14 rugby player who allegedly assaulted a man in a
car park last year will have name suppression until his next
court appearance.
The 25-year-old player allegedly assaulted a man outside a
pub in Mangawhai, north of Auckland, last August, the New
Zealand Herald reported.
He was arrested several weeks later and appeared in the
Warkworth District Court in October, where he was charged
with injuring with intent to injure and granted interim name
suppression.
Other top rugby players have been in hot water over assaults
in the last year.
In December, Taranaki player Paul Perez was convicted and
fined $750 on two charges of assault and one of intentional
damage for choking and punching his pregnant partner, while
Blues halfback Taniela Moa was stood down for a match in
April after an alleged bottle-throwing incident at a rugby
club.
