Grounded fishing boat refloated

A fishing boat that ran aground off the Catlins coast has been refloated.

The crew of the Silver Fern, a 12-metre wooden-hulled trawler, sent a mayday call at 5.49am yesterday to the Rescue Co-ordination Centre to report it had beached at Curio Bay.

The two men on board the vessel were never in any danger Senior Sergeant Dave Raynes, of Invercargill told the Southland Times.

Police organised for an oyster boat which was fishing near Stewart Island to pull it off the beach and it was towed away for repairs.
