Police have found skeletal remains down a steep bank in Upper
Hutt, north of Wellington, today and believe it may be the
body of a man who has been missing for more than three years.
Police have cordoned off an area of Moonshine Hill Road while
investigators examine the scene where the remains were found.
A formal identification has yet to be made, possibly using
dental records or DNA, but police have notified Harold
Skudder's next of kin that it may be his body, Detective
Inspector Shane Cotter said.
Mr Skudder's mother reported the 38-year-old missing in
January 2008, a year after his disappearance.
A 26-year-old man was arrested yesterday and remanded in
custody for the historic murder of the Lower Hutt man.
He also faced a charge of intentional damage after allegedly
breaking a window in January this year. He was granted
interim name suppression to inform his family of the charges
he faced.
The man, who was remanded in custody until March 25, was
arrested after new information from the public.
Police are continuing to investigate, including talking with
friends and family and a scene examination at Delaney Drive,
in the Lower Hutt suburb of Stokes Valley.
