A Hamilton man and his teenage son and daughter have been
charged after allegedly assaulting a female police officer on
Saturday
Detective Sergeant Andy BuBear said officers were called to
the Hamilton East suburb of Fairfield about 7.30am by a
Womens' Refuge worker.
"The property is occupied by one of their clients who resides
there with 10 children and an on-site refuge worker," Mr
BuBear said.
The worker was concerned that the client's estranged partner
was in the house -- in breach of a restraining order.
When police arrived the man managed to jump out of a window
but was confronted by the female officer.
Mr BuBear said the man attacked the officer, inflicting a
head injury, and was joined in the scuffle by his son and
daughter.
"Reinforcements were called and pepper spray has had to be
used to quell the aggressive offender and the teenagers were
arrested for obstruction." The man was put in a patrol car
where he kicked out a window.
Mr BuBear said the attack showed the risks police and other
agencies faced when dealing with family violence incidents.
The man was charged with aggravated injury, assaulting
police, threatening language, intentional damage, breaching a
restraining order and trespass.
He will appear in Hamilton District Court.
