Seventeen-year-old Scott McLaughlin became the youngest ever
winner of a New Zealand V8 race, but John McIntyre, despite
not winning any of the three races at Taupo, left the circuit
as the happiest driver.
John McIntyre, a two-time NZV8 champion, is looking for his
55th race victory as the BNT V8 Championship series heads to
the world's most southern motor racing circuit, Teretonga
Park, outside Invercargill on 15 and 16 January.
It has been a mixed initiation year into the NZV8s series for
Dunedin's John Whelan but he is hoping to salvage the
2009/2010 rookie title during the final round at the Taupo
Motorsport Park this weekend.
In a shortened contest punctuated by uniquely Australian
dramas, Allan Dippie's team bettered its qualifying position
by 21 places to finish 13th overall in the Bathurst 12-hour
race at the weekend.
Queensland based Kiwi racing driver Craig Baird (United Video
Falcon) has leapfrogged into the points lead of the
2009/10 NZV8s Championship at the Timaru International
Motor Raceway yesterday.
With the 2009/10 NZV8s Championship now at exactly half
way, it would appear that Nelson's John McIntyre has the
measure of the field in his immaculately prepared Talleys
Ford Falcon.
